Hackett (Hooper Atchley) is out to take over the Cattlemen's Association by bankrupting them. His men rustle the cattle forcing the payouts to the ranchers. The Three Mesquiteers arrive and soon learn that the coward Canary is one of the gang. Stony (Robert Livingston) has a plan that he hopes will get a confession from him.

The Three Mesquiteers - Treachery & the Orphanage
Good one from the Three Mesquiteers, who were Ray Corrigan, singing cowboy Robert Livingston and ventriloquist Max Terhune. Here they outwit Hooper Atchley and perennial western henchmen Yakima Canutt, George Chesebro and others who are trying to bankrupt the cattlemen, the Cattleman's Association and close the orphanage the association funds. The love interest and manager of the orphanage is lovely Christine Maple. Maple made only 9 films/shorts and was credited in 7 of them. She was quite a beauty who led a risque, scandal filled life and, sadly, committed suicide at age 35. As part of the plan to capture the bad guys, the orphanage puts on a talent show - we get an accordion player, an Apache dance duo, a chorus line of tap dancers, a Shirley Temple type 5 year old singer/dancer, and another slightly older singer/dancer, who was also the show's announcer. All very sweet and amusing. Then Livingston does an act as a mind reader with a crystal ball and things come to a climax. In between the sweet parts there is enough fighting, shooting, ambushes and riding for action and excitement.
